10TH ANNUAL INTERFAITH SUMMIT, WITH CONTEMPLATIVE WORKSHOP AND RETREAT

SCHOLARSHIPS ARE NOW AVAILABLE (contact John@cascadiancenter.org).

REGISTRATION DEADLINE TUESDAY, DECEMBER 4TH

Friday, December 7th (10:00 am - overnight) and Saturday, December 8th (9:00 am – 4:30 pm)

Cascadian Center / Camp Brotherhood
www.cascadiancenter.org

“Change has come to America”, said Obama in his acceptance speech. But will that change be good for everyone? It is not guaranteed, UNLESS we all get involved, prepare ourselves and engage together to become the change we want to see.

This 10th Anniversary of the Interfaith Leadership Summit is dedicated to all who have been advocates for interfaith understanding, dialogue and action over the past 46 years; their pioneering work has promoted a culture of harmony among the religions locally that distinguishes our region in a very positive way.

At the same time, there is much work remaining before we can say we have established a culture of peace and compassion for all who reside here. This Summit and Retreat invites all people of faith (and no faith) who long for a free and fair society for everyone to come together and step up to become the change that we want to see. Indeed, it is up to us!

COME TO THE RETREAT AND SUMMIT (Friday, December 7th, 10:00 am – overnight; Saturday, December 8th, 9:00 am – 4:30 pm): Treat yourself to quiet time for deeper inquiry, renewal of spirit and contemplative practice. This focus on our inner work that is often a luxury in our busy lives will consist of a Centering Prayer Workshop, Interreligious Dialogue and a restful evening on the Cascadian Center’s 220 acre campus. Retreat and Summit with overnight accommodations (double occupancy) and all meals is included for $162.00.

COME TO THE SUMMIT ONLY (Saturday, December 8th, 9:00 am – 4:30 pm): Engage in conversation with others who share your desire for a better world. This is a perfect opportunity to address the urgent impediments to the Greater Good that trouble us individually and collectively. This gathering will allow us to share our stories of challenge in a safe and reflective environment. Through the day it will call forward expressions of hope and invite personal commitments to step up and take specific actions to restore balance in our lives, in our communities and for all creation. It’s Up To Us! Summit only with meals is $40.00.

Our guides for this program, who will ensure that everyone is engaged, include:
* Bonnie Shimizu, Fr. Thomas Keating's Executive Assistant, offering the non-denominational Centering Prayer Workshop
* Fr. William Treacy
* Sibyl Lundy
* Rev. John Otto Liljenstolpe
* Sr. Joyce Cox
* Rabbi Anson Laytner
* Cherags Michael Douglas & Tsukina Blessing
* Rev. Karen Lindquist

Cascadian Center Presents

FAITH IN ACTION ~ A MUSICAL CELEBRATION AND GOURMET DINNER
promoting peace and harmony through music!

In response to requests for scholarships, we are now able to offer discounted tickets to St Pat's Parishioners to attend this special event on Sunday, October 14th at 4:00 pm in Campion Hall on the Seattle University campus.

Click here for the flyer with more details on the program: http://tinyurl.com/8ztfx7o

This program will offer attendees the following opportunities to:

Experience Harmony Among All Faiths: A first for Seattle, musicians and choristers from 10 religious and spiritual traditions will inter-weave their most sacred music into a tapestry that will stir our hearts and expand our awareness that we are all one on this planet.

Embrace “The Golden Rule” in song – the Debut: “The Golden Rule” in song has been composed for this event and will be debuted by well-known local singer-songwriters to celebrate this ancient and universal wisdom which is infused in all world religions and calls us to take action all day, every day for the greater good. This song bridges the divide that separates our communities and brings us together through song around values that we all share.

Witness Faith Invested in the Greater Good: There are many among us who model The Golden Rule in action and we are honored to recognize the Intercommunity Peace and Justice Center for its steadfast, values-based commitment to end human trafficking over the past 12 years (www.ipjc.org).

This offer expires on Tuesday, October 9th when our firm food order is due. If you are interested, contact John Hale at john@cascadiancenter.org or (425) 865-0659 to register at the special rate.

“I have participated in many ecumenical and interfaith concerts, but never like this; the diversity of the traditions mixed together and performing authentic Spirit-centered selections has brought this practice to a new level!” Glynn Olive, University Temple UMC

“Our goal is to create a program of seamless music from the major world religions that through performance and participation will give the audience an experience of universal oneness.” Lavanya Aftabi, Amma Community

ANNOUNCEMENT:

Please note that the Interfaith Leadership Summit scheduled for September 19-20, 2012 at Cascadian Center at Camp Brotherhood is being rescheduled for November 9-10, 2012. Those of you who have prepaid will receive a refund.

The mid-week dates selected for this event, and the two-day duration, precluded a significant number of people from participating. Additionally, we believe the timing, in the middle of a polarized political environment, is distracting of the contemplative focus and creative renewal that have been our intentions for this important 10th anniversary gathering. The new rescheduled event will be on a weekend, will allow for one- or two-day participation, and will be held after the election so we can more fully invest in ourselves to prepare for a better tomorrow.

Mark your calendars now for the November 9-10 Anniversary Summit. More information will follow shortly.

Sincerely,

John Hale,
Beverly Spears

REMINDER

Cascadian Center Presents
10th Annual Interfaith Leadership Summit

“A Leap of Faith”

HONOR THE LEGACY: Awakened by 9/11, interfaith leaders came together to recognize the first anniversary of 9/11, and have continued to honor the oneness that we all share and to advocate wholeness of Head, Heart and Hand.

SHARE YOUR VISIONS: How can we connect through our similarities and create through our differences to create together a world that will serve the greater good?

NOURISH YOUR SOUL: Join us for a transformative faith-inspired experience that will develop our inner resources, reconnect us to one another and increase our resiliency.

CHALLENGE YOUR ASSUMPTIONS: For us to heal the world we must be consciously rooted in the source of all life and creation and when we surrender ourselves to the source we will release “our truth” and open up to the “greater reality”.

RENEW YOUR RESOLVE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE: By discovering the collective wisdom to be gained from interfaith collaboration, we will expand our capacity to creatively meet the crises of our time.

We recognize that these are challenging economic times, and want to make it possible for as many of you as would like to attend this gathering, therefore the Early Bird registration discount of $195.00 for the two day Summit has been extended.

10th Annual Interfaith Leadership Summit

A LEAP OF FAITH

REGISTER NOW to receive the Early Bird Discount.

We live in a time of unprecedented challenges,environmental, social, economic and spiritual. The sheer enormity of the present situation may lead us to question our personal and collective ability to bring about transformation. In addition to the many challenges we face, we also lead increasingly busy lives, often consumed with doing without taking time for being.

As people of faith and vision, if we are not consciously rooted in the source of all life and creation. The Spirit, God, Allah, we are easily tossed about, unable to effectively challenge injustice, or recognize the opportunity for transformation born of the struggle.

We invite you to a consecrated time for Being, for deeper inquiry, renewal of spirit, and practice of gratitude. Out of our being arises our doing, action informed by our deepened connection with Spirit and a new or renewed connection to a community of kindred spirits working for the common good.

The annual Inter-faith Summit has traditionally been a daylong gathering. This year we are offering more of a retreat experience, allowing time for deeper spiritual reflection and relationship building, as well as issue exploration, and action planning. You will emerge renewed in spirit and purpose, energized and ready to act in alignment with that purpose.

Join us:

We encourage you to bring your sense of gratitude, wonder and joy, as well as your desires, doubts, anger & fears. Bring ideas you want to share, and issues you are currently working on, for which you want to build support & coalition.

Guiding the process are Beverly Spears and William Aal. Both will be familiar to many of you as expert facilitators and part of the Interfaith Community in the Northwest.

To Register go to: http://cascadiancenter.org/interfaithsummit12.
For more information contact John Hale at john@cascadiancenter.org Ph: 425-865-0659

Cascadian Center at Camp Brotherhood invites St. Pat's parishioners to visit our campus and join in honoring the life and lifetime commitment of Fr. William Treacy to Compassionate Action. He was our Vatican II priest BEFORE Vatican II.

Together with Rabbi Levine, he co-hosted KOMO TV's Challenge TV program in 1960 and co-founded Camp Brotherhood in 1966. The mission then as now was to Foster Harmony within the Human Family in a setting that honors all faiths. Come and be inspired by Fr. Treacy's joy with music, dialogue, and stories.

DAY OF PRAYER FOR WORLD PEACE

Don't miss this special opportunity to join our sisters and brothers of faith in solidarity for peace in the world and here at home among us.

A CREATIVE INTERFAITH CELEBRATION - in the Spirit of Assisi - with Special Appearance by St. Francis (aka John Otto Liljenstolpe)!

Let us come together to renew our commitment to peace in the world

Vatican II urged us to take our faith into the world in 1964.

In 1986 religious leaders of all faiths gathered in Assisi to pray for world peace.

Today, 25 years later, it is up to us to take the interfaith Spirit of Assisi to a new level.

WHAT: Interfaith Service to Renew the Spirit of Assisi ~ 1986
WHEN: Thursday, October 27, 2011; 7:00 p.m. - Reception to Follow (Bring Cookies to Share)
WHERE: St Patrick Church - 2702 Broadway Avenue E, Seattle, WA 98102

• You are invited to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of that great day, October 27, 1986, when religious leaders from around the world met in Assisi to pray for world peace.

• Assisi was selected as the venue for that occasion because of St. Francis’ inspiring stories of love, courage and commitment to promote peace across the lines of faith, culture and politics.

• St. Francis "incarnated those high aspects of humanity, simplicity, humility" that enable people to recognize each other as brothers and sisters and to see all of creation as the work of the same hands that made them.

For more information, contact: John Hale - john@campbrotherhood.org

Co-Sponsors: Secular Franciscan Order, The Interfaith Amigos (Rabbi Ted Falcon, Sheikh Jamal Rahman, Rev. Don Mackenzie), The Interfaith Community Church, Rauschenbusch Center, St. Patrick Church, Cascadia Center at Camp Brotherhood with resources from the Franciscan Friars of St. Barbara Province.
